Premiere Leadership Experience
Girl Scouts was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, who believed passionately that girls should be given the same opportunities as boys to develop physically, mentally and spiritually. Low was a trailblazer whose visionary leadership created a solid foundation for the enduring organization that Girl Scouts has become.
When Girl Scouts was founded, there was no path to leadership for women. Low knew it would take an organization of all girls to change the world she saw. Since that first Girl Scout troop meeting in Savannah, Georgia, March 1912, there’s only been one qualification required to become a Girl Scout: being a girl.
Girl Scouts has done more than any other organization to provide leadership experiences for girls. Through their many program series, events, community service projects, camp and travel opportunities and product programs; Girl Scouting encourages girls to discover themselves and their values, inspires them to connect with others and empowers them to take action to change the world.
In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together.
Not only can a girl become a Girl Scout by joining a troop, but there are many opportunities for girls to become a Girl Scout through our Outreach Program. Spirit of Nebraska’s Outreach makes Girl Scouting available to girls who would otherwise not have the opportunity to participate. Utilizing the Girl Scouts Leadership Experience, Outreach provides programming in the areas of life skills, philanthropy, environmental education, safety, wellness, financial literacy and much more. Our Girl Scouts Outreach program ensures every girl, regardless of her family’s socio-economic status, has the opportunity to discover who she is and what is important to her, to connect to the world around her and to take action to make the world a better place.
We are transforming the world:
59 million American women are Girl Scout alumnae.
Of all of the women in Congress, 75% of them are Girl Scouts.
70% of professional women are Girl Scouts.
