FAQs

FAQs for Donors

1. What is Give Big Lexington?

Give BIG Lexington is a 24-hour day of giving on Thursday, November 15th from 12:00 a.m. until midnight. It is a day when everyone is asked to make a donation and show support for the local nonprofit organizations that positively impact our lives every day.

Every donation will receive a proportional share of a $100,000 match pool of funds given by the Lexington Community Foundation. This is the second year the Lexington Community Foundation has offered the Give BIG Lexington initiative. More than $236,000 were raised in 2011.

The purpose of this community-wide giving challenge is to raise the awareness of the current philanthropic needs and opportunities in our community, increase public awareness of local nonprofit organizations, build capacity of local nonprofits and inspire donors to support the causes that mean the most to them. Together we have the power to raise thousands of dollars and have a significant impact on the future of Lexington.

2. Who can participate in Give Big Lexington?

All local nonprofit organizations that serve the Lexington area are welcome to participate in this event. This includes health and human service organizations, arts and culture, children and families, education, animals, parks and recreation and many more Lexington nonprofit groups. Organizations that exist primarily for religious or political activities are excluded.

3. How do I make a donation?

Donations to participating organizations can be made online here. This event is for 24 hours on Thursday, November 15, beginning at 12:00 a.m. and ending at 11:59 p.m. Donations must be made during this time to qualify for the matching funds.

The Lexington Community Foundation will also receive gifts from individuals who prefer to make their gifts in person instead of online. People can come to the Foundation office at 607 N. Washington St. between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

4. Is there a minimum or maximum donation?

The minimum donation is $10. There is no maximum donation limit.

5. How much of my donation will go to the nonprofit?

The nonprofit organization will receive the full donation, less a flat rate of 2.9%, which covers the credit card processing and Razoo.com fees.

6. Who will receive my contact information?

The organization(s) you choose to support will receive donor name and address, unless the donor chooses to make an anonymous contribution. As host of Give Big Lexington 2012, Lexington Community Foundation will receive the contact information for donors who participate in Give Big Lexington and do not give anonymously. This information is used solely to thank the donor for participating in Give BIG Lexington.

7. Can I get a refund?

All donations are final and cannot be refunded.

8. Do I need to have an account with Razoo to donate?

No, you do not need to create an account to make a donation. However, if you plan to give multiple times during Give Big Lexington creating an account means you only have to enter your credit card information once. Your account also collects your tax receipts in one location, enables you to track your donation, review the charities you support, and schedule future giving.

9. How do I get a tax receipt?

Your tax receipt is e-mailed to you immediately by Razoo Foundation upon successful processing of your online donation. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please retain your email donation receipt as an official record. If you misplace this email, you can view your giving history and receipts by logging into your Razoo account, or request a duplicate receipt by e-mailing support@razoo.com. Please include your full name, date of donation, amount of donation, and name of your designated nonprofit. Offline donations will have a tax receipt mailed to them from the Lexington Community Foundation.
